Our lives are judged not by our innocence or happiness, but by our works. Virtue cannot be obtained simply from abstaining from sin, but by the performance of good works.
For good works to flourish in one’s life, however, keeping away from sin is required to surrender yourself fully to goodness. Even if we cannot fully separate ourselves from sin and our passions, we can always live and serve others to the best of our ability.
Is there true joy in the decadence of the world, or in sexual degeneracy? Is there true happiness in ignorance? No, this joy is false and only blinds us to truth and godly production.
Aquinas states that since joy is natural to man, when there is a lack of it, he will seek worldly and carnal pleasures. A substitute for God is infinitely worthless compared the joy of serving Christ and His Church, and even this worldly pleasure is nothing compared to the Beatific Vision we receive when we are in Heaven.
As Christians, we must suffer for our faith and what is righteous, but bearing our crosses is a greater joy and gift than any man who lives a peaceful and decadent life! There is no greater man than he who suffers for Our Blessed Lord, and we should accept all lack of items, hatred towards us, and displeasure, as joyfully as possible.
Bearing our cross is the most pleasing to God, and should please us the most as well.
As a former Catholic, I think I’m going to stick to the side that thinks gay couples deserve to have marriage rights and long-lasting, fulfilling relationships and views women as more than mothers, nuns, or servants to their husband.
I’ve also found more joy and satisfaction in helping people just to help them than I ever did in just doing it to get to heaven when I was younger, but that might just be a case of me growing up a bit.
